Prepare for your session
Tips and Tricks for a successful session
What to (and not to) wear
Get in touch with me and we will plan out every detail. Generally speaking neutral colors on a similar color pallet work best. Avoid shirts with branding or busy graphics. Patterns are okay, but limit it to one person having a busier outfit so there is no clashing.
Empty your pockets!
No, this is not a robbery. Bring a small bag you can dump things in and toss on the ground momentarily. Flush pockets are far more flattering.
Tips on Sessions with the kiddos
-Bring a toy that tends to capture their attention and/or keep them preoccupied.
-Bring the typical bag with snacks, water and whatever else they might need.
**Always bring a change of clothes if still in diapers. **
Session timing
The reason I do not have a calendar booking schedule is because I want to ensure EVERY session is planned out accordingly by time of day, best lighting, tree cover, ect. I love the golden hours (sunrise and sunset) but also book mornings and late afternoons. I avoid midday sun because of the harsh light and shadows it casts. We want the light to work FOR us not against us.
What to bring
What to bring: Most of our locations are outdoors. With that said, it's always good to bring a bag we can easily toss on the ground to hold water, a sweat rag, and all phones, keys, and wallets. As well as anything the kiddos need. Empty pockets before we start shooting.
Take off the fitbit, hair ties on the wrist, ect.
These things are easy to forget but a pain to edit out in post production.
Newborn Session Tips
-Ensure baby is fed right before the session. Fed babies are usually sleepier babies.
-Have blankets and pillows on hand to use as backdrops and support.
-We will photograph in the room with the best natural light.
-Have extra change of clothes ready.
-Have a toy nearby that captures their attention.
-Mom or dad swaddle will baby.
Session locations
In our consult meeting, we will discuss the kind of background you'd like and I will offer suggestions.
-Some of my favorites are: Hampton Park, Cypress Gardens, downtown Charleston.
***There are a few places that I will not shoot. It is illegal to hold sessions on Sullivan's Island public beach. Mepkin Abby in Moncks Corner does not allow photography. Some attractions and hotels require session fees to shoot there, which is an additional cost to the customer.
